THE MYSTERY OF Ocean Aires THIRTEEN…

13th Annual Classical Concert Benefits the Arts Project of Cherry Grove

On Saturday, June 25, 2011, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove presents OceanAires Thirteen at Fire Island’s Cherry Grove Community House on Bayview Walk.

Something’s afoot as the creator of this annual fundraiser, Isaac Steven Vaughan, and his fellow musicians perform a classical concert in a haunted auditorium!  It’s musical mayhem molto misterioso!

One of New York’s most glamorous drag queens, Philomena, emcees the recital hilariously.

The program once again opens with a commissioned work by composer Seth Bedford.  His Variations on “God Save The Queen” honors Cherry Grove’s Homecoming Queen, traditionally selected each Memorial Day Weekend to preside over the summer season.  It also includes two other compositions by him; arias from Gilbert & Sullivan’s Ruddigore and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte; art songs by Schubert and Torelli; piano solos of Beethoven and Say; as well as works by Glière and Saint-Seans.

In addition to Messrs. Bedford and Vaughan, artists appearing are David Auxier; Kurt Behnke; Anthony Chiocchi; Eric Coyne; Ruth Freedner; Susan Freedner; Laura Ann Giusto; Chris MacDonnell; William George McGarvey; Christopher Minarich; Clarence Perry; Sherri Rase; Brent Weldon Reno; Gene Rohrer; Curtis J. Strohl; Molly Watson and Tim Webster.

The two-hour concert starts at 8:30 PM.  Tickets are $30 for APCG members, $35 for non-members, and may be purchased at the box office from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on 6/11, 6/12, 6/18, 6/19, 6/25 and one hour before the performance.

Founded in 1948, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove is a 501(c) 3 non-profit community service organization dedicated to providing an environment where art, in its many forms, can be created, developed, exhibited, and preserved.   It reflects Cherry Grove’s longtime appeal to creative people, and serves the social and cultural interests of the community; hosting many special fund-raising events such as: classical recitals, an art show, several stage shows, BINGO, flea market, casino weekend, the season-opening Homecoming Party, and the season-closing annual Ball. The APCG contributes to the Cherry Grove Community Association, Inc.; Dunes Fund; Memorial Fund; Volunteer Fire Department; Doctor’s Fund; and other organizations in need of financial support.
