In Town Party 2010

by Syilvia Shapiro

Darlings- Although the summer hasn’t started yet, the board of directors of the Arts Project of Cherry Grove pulled off their first triumph of the coming season: The In Town Party. It was held at the Gay and Lesbian Center in the village and it was all very gay. I mean that literally as well as figuratively. To announce the theme for the season, “The Greatest Shows on Earth”. The walls were decorated with vintage circus posters. Each table was done up in a different brightly colored table cloth with center pieces consisting of huge pop corn buckets. The buckets were filled with peanuts, cotton candy, toys and all kinds of circus treats. Multi colored balloons attached to the centerpieces floated above the tables….and darlings; they even had calliope music playing…Too Betty Hutton!

Christmas in Florida

by Linda Dickerman

There is no snow! It’s the only thing missing. In Delray Beach, we have a hundred foot Christmas tree, Santa, and many elves. We even have an outside ice skating rink. It’s not actually ice, but it acts like it except it’s not cold. There are many parties none of which is hampered by bad weather.

Yesterday I was at a party and what is nice…many Cherry Grove people were there. Tonight is Christmas Eve and we are going to dinner at Diane Romanello, the well known artist, and Tina Rella’s house. Tomorrow will be dinner and a party at Ro and Linda’s. You should all remember them from the pizza place in the Grove where Floyds is now.

What Cherry Grove Means to Me

by Jane Haber

As I mentally prepare for an upcoming reunion of some classmates from my public school (some I haven't seen in 40 years) a few thoughts come to mind. Even in Kindergarten, at the ripe age of five, I don't think I felt like I belonged. I felt odd. This feeling of being "a square peg in a round hole" followed me all my life, until I came out much later.

It wasn't until Toni and I started spending our summers in Cherry Grove that I realized what a haven Cherry Grove is. I have the freedom and support to be me. The expression we have out there to denote the hour, "Cherry Grove Time", is a function of our lifestyle and how we view ourselves: a little or a lot off center. And that's O.K.

Cherry Grove is the place where I belong, surrounded 24/7 by other "square pegs".
