About APCG

Founded in 1948, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove, Inc. (APCG) is a community service organization dedicated to presenting the arts in Cherry Grove, Fire Island, New York, with the distinct honor of having established the oldest known Gay/Lesbian theater in America.

From its inception, our organization has produced hundreds of summer season events including original and well-known theater productions, cabaret acts, art exhibitions, film festivals, archival presentations, recitals, gaming events and more.  The Arts Project also actively fosters community spirit by promoting inclusiveness; we encourage all:  residents, guests, and visitors alike, to participate in our productions and events as performers, artists, and/or audience members.

Decades after its inception, the APCG board of directors and its officers, joined by many of its active members, continue to serve as volunteers. Our goals remain the same:  to continue to move forward in our mission providing the most creative, diverse and enriching line-up of cultural experiences and entertainment possible.

We are a 501 c(3) not for profit organization and are considered the most prolific cultural and fund raising institution supporting the Cherry Grove community.  The generous donations of members, patrons and friends of the Arts Project are key to supporting these continuing efforts.
